FC Barcelona 21/22 Home Kit Concept Design

FC Barcelona 21/22 Home Kit Concept Design

Over the past few days, I have been seeing various FC Barcelona 21/22 jersey leaks from media outlets. Most of the leaks include the traditional Barcelona colors with vast changes to the stripes into a half horizontal design around the chest. I, therefore, took some time creating my visual concept of how the 21/22 season jersey should look with important details tying into the clubs values, culture and history.

With my home kit design, I have followed through from the previous season of the blue and red vertical stripes going down all the way. It’s been a classic design for many years that I absolutely love seeing and is recognised by football fans across the world. It’s also been referenced from the clubs 2010/11 champions league winning season with a similar design followed through from the past.

More importantly, the vast design change you can see on the jersey concept is the Barcelona architecture in the background. Its modern, tidy and timeless array of buildings is wrapped around the shirt. A view of the fantastic city is embedded in a light opacity while the main colours take control in front.

With the FC Barcelona crest I have written “mes que un club”, a slogan meaning “more than a club” in a circular design showcasing the important values and foundations. Including that detail reiterates to the Barca players what it means to play for the team as well as who they represent every time they step onto the pitch. I also referenced this from the 2007 50th anniversary jersey with a circular design around the crest at that time with the words “Camp Nou 1957 – 2007”

The striped design on the shoulders slightly changes with thin yellow piping on the outside for Catalan colours that continue around the sleeves and collar, fading at the bottom of the jersey. Gold wording gives a more classy aesthetic – known for the colour of success. A club that wants to win all competitions.

Highest-appearing, goal-scoring and greatest football player on the planet Leo Messi is displayed on the back. I kept a clean modern font and number alongside the classic UNICEF sponsorship. I also added another touch of the Catalan flag at the top, crucial for the city’s culture outside the sporting element. With my overall concept design of the 21/22 Barcelona jersey I hope more people appreciate the thought process behind the design. I personally think rumour leaks do not correspond with the vision of Barcelona. An idea like mine that pays respect to values, history, culture and past legendary periods of the club should be an inspiration for the future.
